Gourmet Biltong Co is a family business in Hervey Bay, Queensland. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why, and who else touches it. It is deliberately specific — if something isn’t listed here, we don’t do it.
What this website collects: nothing
We want to be unusually direct about this, because most online stores cannot say it. This website runs no analytics, no tracking pixels and no advertising cookies. We do not know who you are when you browse, we do not build a profile of you, and we do not share your visit with anyone.
There is no account to create, no newsletter box and no contact form. Your shopping cart is stored in your own browser and never reaches us — clear your browser data and it is gone, including from our side, because we never had it.
What we collect when you order
Checkout is handled by Shopify. When you buy something, the information you enter there is collected to fulfil the order:
- Your name, email address, delivery address and phone number.
- What you ordered, including any fat or slicing preference you selected.
- Payment confirmation. We never see or store your full card number — your card details go to the payment processor, not to us.
If you email us, we keep that correspondence so we can help you and so we have a record if there is a problem with an order later.
Why we collect it
To take payment, pack the right thing, get it to your door, contact you if something goes wrong, and keep the business records we are required to keep. That is the complete list. We do not sell personal information and we do not trade it with anyone.
Who else handles it
Only the parties that have to, to get an order to you:
- Shopify — runs our checkout and stores our order records.
- The payment provider behind that checkout — processes your card. We receive confirmation, not card numbers.
- Australia Post — receives your name, address and phone number so it can deliver the parcel.
- Our email provider — holds any correspondence between us.
We may also disclose information where we are required to by law.
Information held overseas
You should know this one. Shopify and our email provider operate servers outside Australia, so your order and contact details are stored overseas — in practice the United States and Canada. Those providers are bound by their own privacy terms, but once information is held in another country it is subject to that country’s laws as well as ours.
By placing an order you consent to that overseas storage. If you would rather not, email us and we will arrange your order another way.
Marketing email
We will only send you marketing if you have asked for it. Every marketing email we send will identify us and carry a working unsubscribe link, and we will act on an unsubscribe promptly. Order confirmations and delivery updates are not marketing — you will get those because you bought something.
How long we keep it
Order records are kept as long as we need them for tax, accounting and warranty purposes. Beyond that we delete or de-identify personal information when we no longer need it.
Keeping it secure
The site is served over HTTPS and order data sits behind our providers’ access controls with accounts limited to the people who pack and post orders. No system is perfect, and we would rather say that than claim otherwise. If a breach ever occurred that was likely to cause you serious harm, we would notify you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.
Seeing, correcting or deleting your information
Email hello@gourmet-biltong.com.au and ask. You can request a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct anything wrong, or ask us to delete it. We will respond within a reasonable period and we will not charge you for asking.
We may need to keep some order records even after a deletion request, where the law requires us to — we will tell you if that applies and explain what is being kept and why.
If you are not happy with how we handled it
Tell us first — email the address above with “Privacy” in the subject line and we will look into it and reply. If you are still not satisfied, you can take a complaint to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
Changes to this policy
If we start collecting anything we don’t collect today — analytics, for instance — we will update this page and change the date at the top before doing it, not after. The date at the top is the honest test of whether this page describes what we currently do.
